Dr. Levinus Dieleman

Consultant, Clinical TRIAls

Dr. Leo Dieleman (MD/PhD) will have provide us with access to adult IBD patients and samples. Dr. Dieleman is an international expert in gut microbiome, IBD and dietary intervention for IBD.  Likewise, Dr. Wine is an expert in gut microbiome, 3D organ culture, the use of a microinjection device to inject into the lumen of the 3D organoid and has an active pediatric clinic to recruit patients with early stage IBD. He will identity relevant cases for us for biomarker exploration and aid in patient recruitment for phase 1, 2 and 3 phases.

KEVIN PARKER

Consultant, BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Mr. Kevin Parker has a background in early-stage technology commercialization, including direct experience with startups and technology transfer offices. Prior to BioImmuno Designs, he worked with a university incubator, where he assisted early-stage companies in the health and biotech sectors with market strategy and business development. He holds degrees in Molecular Biology and Biotech Commercialization, both from the University of Calgary.
DR. FREDERICK WEST (CONSULTANT, MEDICINAL CHEMISTRY)
In addition, Dr. Frederick West will be a consultant to the team advising on the medicinal chemistry optimization of small molecule hits. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Alberta and co-Director of the Cancer Research Institute of Northern Alberta. He has expertise in various aspects of chemical synthesis involving bioactive compounds and compounds that act as catalysts in chemical reactions. 

DR. NATALIA VOLODKO, BSc., PhD. (SCIENTIST)
​Dr. Natalia Volodko has received a Ph.D. in Genetics at Institute of Cytology and Genetics (Novosibirsk, Russia) and postdoctoral training at University of Alberta (Department of Biochemistry, 2010-2011; Department of Pediatrics, 2013-2016). Her research interests focus on how inflammation initiates cancer and what biochemical and epigenetic changes occur during inflammation to cancer transition. She has developed an expertise in the use of animal models, genetic analysis and the design, analysis and plotting of genome wide association studies. She has also developed an expertise in organ culturing and R (programming language) and machine learning. She continues to design specific algorithms to explore patient specific minute differences when compared to a normal population in manner that will be simple, reproducible, informative and accurate.  ​

ADRIENNE BAKSH, BSc. (INTERIM DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS)
Adrienne Baksh graduated with a BSc. in Molecular Genetics from the University of Alberta. She has >8 years experience as a research laboratory technician in the Department of Biochemistry using animal model systems and genetic analysis to study mitochondrial diseases and aging. She enjoys the challenge of managing a fast-paced research group and ensuring that the laboratory is always in good working order, from training staff and students to maintaining equipment and supplies.
